The Mountain Cabin

The Mountain Cabin, Iceland

Our traditional Nordic cabin is situated in a beautiful tranquil setting surrounded by mountains in West Iceland. Ideal for couples or a small family, this makes a great base for exploring the region with its beautiful waterfalls, historical sites, great hiking with the majestic Glymur waterfall being only a 15 min drive. The Snaefellsness Penninsula is a must see and is just a 45 min drive. Access to the Golden Circle (Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir National Park) being a 90 minute drive away.

The Space

Our traditional Nordic cabin was imported from Norway back in the 90's and has been carefully maintained and modernised to provide a mix of traditional and modern Nordic living to make for a cosy, comfortable and relaxing stay.
The cabin sits in its own secluded grounds with spectacular views in both the summer and winter. The open plan living gives you the typical Nordic experience with a compact yet functional kitchen area which has plenty of storage and work-space; has all the modern appliances, such as an induction hob, convection fan oven, full size fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee maker and dishwasher along side all the utensils you could need. The dining area looks out at a 180 degree view of mountains and down the valley which makes for an amazing breakfast and coffee experience. The side door leads onto the outside deck area which runs around the cabin to the hot tub and grounds.

The cosy lounge area with a traditional log burner and comfortable leather sofa adorned with sheepskins and cushions makes for some of the best relaxing evenings, with the candles flickering away and just the sound of birds and the wind outside . There are plenty of books and games to read and use and a Bluetooth speaker to connect your favourite chilled music to.

The bedrooms are on the ground floor as the sleeping loft above is private. The main bedroom is super cosy with a comfortable double bed and matching bedside table and lamps. We have squeezed in a chest of drawers for your clothes. The second bedroom is set up with a full size single bed and super comfy mattress to accommodate either a third adult or a child and another chest of drawers and some hooks for your clothes. The bathroom has been re-fitted with a tiled floor and new thermostatic shower providing unlimited hot geothermal water. Please note that the water sources come direct from underground sources so the pressure may vary at times. The hallway has a storage unit to hang your coats and put shoes away.

Outside, the private grounds offer complete natural privacy, peace and tranquillity with just birdsong and the wind to listen to. Mature trees, and a a rock face for you to explore; climbing to the top is worth the effort with amazing views of mountains on both sides and uninterrupted views down the valley.
The hot tub is very secluded and makes for a relaxing time soaking in the natural geothermal hot water and taking in the spectacular views of the mountains with a glass of your favourite tipple! The Aurora makes for a spectacular sight over the mountains on a clear winters night!
There is a storage/utility room next to the front door which houses the washing machine and dryer. We will leave the code for you if you need to make use of these facilities.
There is no broad-band fibre here in the country but we offer a hi-speed 4G wi-fi router which is perfectly capable of running multiple devices at constant speeds as well as streaming film or music. We regularly work on websites here with two laptops and social on I-phones as well as streaming, with no issues.

The hot tub is very easy to use and we have provided instructions at the cabin.
